Bryan Truta - JPII Alumni
If You Give A Boy A Microphone…
Bryan Truta attended Queen of the Holy Rosary School during the late 1980s/early 1990s. He played soccer, baseball, basketball, and boys volleyball, and participated in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts (Eagle Scout 1993, Troop 295). He was an altar server, worked on the literary magazine, took Spanish and cross-stitching class, learned Irish Dance and took part in St. Patrick’s Day parades. He was 8th grade Student Council President, and his favorite teacher was Mr. Owsley in 4th grade.
“I remember the close-knit community we were as a school and church. Countless good times with all-school Masses, the school plays, Mr. Webb, and the Kids Praise and Christmas Vespers program. It’s where I learned to be on a microphone and be comfortable speaking in front of others.”
Bryan went on to attend Bishop Miege High School and the University of Kansas. He started his career in radio as an intern and continues to work in that field. Today he is Senior Director of Radio Operations for Kansas City PBS and a morning show host at 90.9 The Bridge.
“I’m grateful for the range and diversity of our studies and activities. Our school and church community was truly there to support us. Our teachers were second to none, and literally growing up with the same group of friends from Kindergarten to 8th grade built some amazing bonds. We learned a lot, we played hard, we prayed, and had an unforgettable experience. I’ll always look back on my time there fondly.”

Congratulations to Victoria Gomerdinger, 2012 graduate of John Paul II! She just graduated Magna Cum Laude from Yale with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and is headed to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall to enter their Chemical Engineering PhD program. Way to go, Victoria!
