We are pleased to be offering The Screen Guardians Digital Health & Safety Program for our K-8 students.  We encourage parents to learn along with your child by signing up for the parent portal!  There is no cost to JPII families.

About the Program

The Screen Guardians is a 14  lesson educational program designed to help students build safe, balanced, and healthy digital habits. Lessons will be taught once per week during class time and will focus on age-appropriate, practical skills students can use both online and offline.

Topics include:

  • Brain and body health related to screen use

  • Online safety, privacy, and personal boundaries

  • Empathy, kindness, and responsible digital citizenship

  • Cyberbullying, scams, and online risks

  • Practical tools for balance, recovery, and asking for help

Each week, students will bring home brief materials to share with you, encouraging families to continue conversations and reinforce learning together.

Parent Support & Resources

To support families, the program also includes optional education materials for parents and caregivers through a secure platform called the (i.)Parent Companion and some may have access to the (ii.)Parent Portal

    (i) Parent Companion provides:

  • Weekly overviews of what students are learning

  • Worksheets, resources, tips, and family discussion guides

  • Short videos for deeper learning on weekly topics

   (ii) Parent Portal

  • Is an adult facing video based resource library for parents or other caregivers

  • It expands upon the digital health and safety topics discussed in the program

  • Is optional but requires registering for it with an email address.

To sign up for these parent resources, contact Kathleen Mersman, Principal.

Please note: participation is not required but is strongly encouraged, as parents and caregivers play a vital role in children’s digital well-being.

We are excited to bring The Screen Guardians to our school community and believe it will support both students’ learning and overall well-being. Thank you for your partnership and support. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher or the school office.
