Our licensed program is open to a mixed-age group of children from 3 to 5 years of age on a 5, 3 or 2-day per week basis. Children may attend the morning preschool class from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. or the afternoon session from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., on the days of your choosing, regardless of their age. John Paul II Preschool/Child Care also does not discriminate in regard to race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, physical handicap or sex.

Extended-care services are available from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00p.m., around the child’s preschool session.

An enriching summer program with full or half-day options is open to any child meeting the age requirement of 3 years.

John Paul II Preschool is equipped and staffed as a Montessori school where children are allowed to progress at their own pace through a variety of individual and small group activities. Each daily class features a maximum of 24 children and is staffed with 3 teachers.

The classroom features the Montessori Practical Life, Sensorial, Language and Math materials, as well as manipulative activities in such areas as music and art appreciation, the continents and cultures of our world, magnetism and electricity. Elements of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Montessori’s Catholic religious education program, are also part of the curriculum. Equipment for the development of gross motor skills which are related to the mastery of auditory and visual perceptual abilities necessary for future educational success are included as well. A computer station and Smart Board are available for the student’s enrichment.

Individual records are kept on skills developed by the children and guidance given to encourage the mastery of undeveloped skills. Parent-teacher conferences are held in October and April.

Parents are welcome to visit the preschool at any time. Field trips as well as parties for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day are highlights for the children, and give parents an opportunity for involvement.

The Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas REQUIRES all volunteers (and staff) at our school take a course through the Archdiocese called Virtus training. This class is designed to prevent the abuse of God’s children. The program identifies the warning signs of abuse and teaches strategies for maintaining safe environments for children.

If you plan on driving to any field trips, volunteering in the classrooms, helping on field day, on party days, to be a room-parent, volunteering at all you MUST be Virtus trained. Virtus class can be scheduled through the Archdiocese web site: on the right side click on the picture of the children “Protecting God’s Children”. Or go directly to and register. All parent and grandparent volunteers must have this training and forms from the class turned into the Preschool Office.
